PEYZAC-LE-MOUSTIER
Halfway between Les Eyzies and Montignac-Lascaux rises steeply over the Vézère the cliff of La Roque St Christophe.
Remarkable for its powerful forms, its number of habitats and its age of occupation by man, this site constitutes a setting of rare and wild beauty.
This veritable one-kilometre-long limestone wall has been dug out by a hundred rock shelters and long aerial terraces. These natural cavities were occupied by man in prehistoric times and then were modified to become a fort and a city in the Middle Ages until the beginning of the Renaissance. The visit of La Roque St Christophe allows you to understand the mode of development of the troglodyte dwellings. There, you will discover the imprint left by our ancestors on the rock as well as a conservatory of civil engineering machines reconstituted in homage to the great medieval builders.
