Located near Brantôme, the Cave of Villars presents a double interest: geology and prehistory.
You can admire all types of concretions during the guided tour: impressive calcite flows, fine stalactites, translucent draperies, countless stalagmites. Important adjustments were made: sound and light, anti-slip paths, comments by micro HF. Prehistoric paintings dating back to 18,000 years lightly covered with calcite will allow you to appreciate the art of our ancestors.
The “bison and sorcerer” scene is one of the few human representations of prehistoric art.
Near the reception you will discover a teaching area with video-animation film, a presentation of a stalagmite floor coring retracing the climatic evolution of the last 100 centuries and an exhibition of archaeological furniture discovered in the cave.
